Mark Jacobson Mark grew up in Hobart on the shores of the Derwent river. His love for life by and on the water began there. Mark attended art school in Tasmania.

For 10 years he worked for the Tasmanian Sea Fisheries Dept. gaining wide experience as a taxonomic (scientific) illustrator, marine cartographer and graphic artist. This involvement with the marine environment and those who share his love for it is reflected in his work.

In 1985 Mark embarked on his career as a fine artist and in1988 he moved to South East Queensland with his wife and children. Since that time his work has been a celebration of life in the sun and by the sea. Friends and family often appear in the landscape.

Mark has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia.  His paintings appear in government and corporate collections and have been purchased by collectors from around the world. Mark is a qualified Art/Design and IPT teacher.

A WORD ABOUT PASTELS

Mark works in many media but has specialised in the use of pastels. The choice is a deliberate one. Pastels represent the oldest and most enduring art media.  The logevity and clarity of cave art testifies to this. Pastels are natural ochres and pigments held together by varying amounts of binding  material.  Mark sources pastels from around the world, using only the softest and purest forms.

Framed works are double matted and mounted with museum quality mounts and boards. If properly mounted and framed under glass, pastel paintings will never need to be cleaned or retouched.  They should last for generations.
